To The Presbytery:

A brief update on Harvey's effects in PSL.

Lake Charles area has had some flooding.  At this time there may be some damage at St Andrew and Westminster in Sulphur.  The damage is not extensive.  As time goes by, there will be further evaluations and cost estimates.  I have asked Christina Drake, Disaster Coordinator for PSL to work with the churches in coordinating grant requests from PDA.

Several of the churches in the West, have begun to assemble hygiene kits to distribute to the Lake Charles Convention Center which is housing evacuees from Texas.

As to our neighboring Presbyteries, New Covenant and Mission.  I have been in daily conversation with officials from those presbyteries concerning their needs.  I have offered the resources of PSL as they may need them.  Christiana is ready to travel if requested.

For all persons who want to help in the recovery, donations may be made to New Covenant, or Mission Presbytery directly, or to PDA (Presbyterian Disaster Assistance).

We in PSL are no stranger to terrible storms.  Our prayers and love are poured out to brothers and sisters whose lives will be changed forevermore.

We know and believe that our God is one of life and new creation.  That our God can and will bring life out of the deepest despair and darkest of times. We pray that God's Spirit of comfort, and strength will surround each and every person effected by this disaster, giving them strength and courage to move forward.

As we have experienced, on this 12th anniversary of Katrina, and a little over a year since the Great Flood of 2016, rebuilding takes a long time.  The good news, Presbyterians, through PDA, are here for the long haul, and MOST importantly so is God.

And so dear ones, it is "onward and upward" prepared to do whatever is necessary to help rebuild God's creation.

Take care and be safe
